PA Ag Products
Is there fungus amongus?
I happen to be a huge fan of apples, so you can imagine my delight when I discovered this display at the PA Farm Show (and free samples!). While I was not particularly surprised to learn that PA produces approximately 483 million pounds of apples annually, valued at $67.1 million, I never suspected that PA growers also produce 501 million pounds of mushrooms annually, with a value of $439 million. (Stats from the National Agricultural Statistics Service and 2007 Census of Agriculture). Other noteworthy figures: 92% of PA's 63,200 farms are family owned; 1 in 7 jobs are related to agriculture; and PA can claim 7.8 million acres of farmland, with an average farm size of more than 124 acres.
